Version matrix
| Android | Release scope | What has been tested |
|---|---|---|
| 9 | APK / USB minimum; built-in hotspot selectable | Hotspot code path exists, but no universal Android 9 wireless test |
| 10 | USB, built-in hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct paths | Vendor API crash reports; #79 official-APK retest pending |
| 11–13+ | Above the minimum | Radio, decoder, firmware and iPhone still determine actual success |
| 7 / 6 | Below released APK minimum | No validated Android 7 port found; #68 Android 6 emulator launch only |
| 5 / 4.4 | Below released APK minimum | Android 4 support explicitly declined by maintainer (#49) |
Minimum is not a support matrix
Android 10 meets the Wi-Fi Direct API baseline, yet some vendor frameworks lack the getter used in earlier builds. A version-specific software bug must not become a blanket DiLink incompatibility claim.
Android 13 is used in the maintainer’s verified DiLink 5.1 HUD firmware. That does not imply every Android 13 car has the same stock receiver.
Ports and forks
Issue #68 describes an Android 6 modified source build that launches in an emulator. The author explicitly had not tested an actual CarPlay session. Do not treat successful compilation or a lower minSdk as a working port.
No legacy APK is distributed here. Use the official release and mark unsupported/untested paths honestly.
