Prepare while parked
- Record the car model/year, DiLink version, Android version and firmware build from the head unit’s system information.
- Download the public APK from the project’s GitHub release and use your head unit’s supported installation method. Firmware restrictions vary; there is no universal sideload password in the project docs.
- Open DiPlay and grant Bluetooth/Nearby devices and Wi-Fi/Location permissions as requested. Microphone access is for Siri/calls; notifications expose connection controls.
- Close other phone-projection apps. Keep iPhone Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on, then pair it in the car’s Bluetooth settings.
Make the first connection
For built-in hotspot: enable the car’s hotspot, prefer 5 GHz when available, and save the exact hotspot name/password in Settings → Connection setup. Tap Connect phone and accept CarPlay prompts on the iPhone. The app passes hotspot details over Bluetooth.
For USB: use a data cable and data port, choose Connect with USB, and accept Android USB access plus iPhone Trust/CarPlay prompts. Approve the local VPN permission if requested; it supports the USB network link.
Establish a baseline
Start at 30 fps with HEVC off and Default icon/text size. Try 80% or 60% resolution if the head unit struggles. Apply and reconnect is required for display changes during a session.
Test picture, touch, music, navigation voice and a call separately. Entering CarPlay is only the first check. Save diagnostics if a step fails.
